GemmaArterton-Slutty

Gemma Arterton (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) are set to star in Oscar winning director Neil Jordan’s (Interview with the Vampire) new vampire frightener Byzantium. Written by Jane Eyre scribe Moira Buffini, the film details the lives of a mother/daughter bloodsucking team.

Producer Stephen Woolley tells THR:

I love the horror genre and we’ve been working on this for three or four years. I sent it to Neil and he liked the script.

Woolley and Jordan’s previous collaborations include In the Company of Wolves, The Butcher Boy, In Dreams, and Interview with the Vampire. Jordan also directed last year’s fantasy-romance Ondine, starring sexy Polish actress Alicja Bachleda as a selkie and Colin Farrell as the fisherman who captures her.

Horror fans last got an eyeful of Arterton’s talents in Anchor Bay’s abduction-thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed. The 25-year-old stunner is currently at work on Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters in Braunschweig, Germany.

the_amityville_horror-lost-tapes

Dimension Films and Miramax have tapped filmmakers Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands to write and direct the recently greenlit sequel The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes. The film will pick up where the original 1979 haunted house thriller left off via found footage dating back to 1976.

The film’s synopsis reads:

An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror … only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.

Dimension Films distributed Platinum Dunes remake of The Amityville Horror in 2005. The film, which starred Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George, Chloe Moretz, and Rachel Nichols, went on the earn over $109 million in worldwide gross.

The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes is slated for release on Jan. 27, 2012.

Gemma Arterton Moves Into Agatha Christie’s ‘The Crooked House’

Gemma-Arterton-leggy

British actress Gemma Arterton (Disappearance of Alice Creed) is set to star in director Neil LaBute’s big screen adaptation of Agatha Christie’s murder-mystery novel “The Crooked House.” She joins a cast that includes Gabriel Byrne (End of Days), Matthew Goode (Watchmen), and Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music).

LaBute tells Variety:

The story has a couple of fresh sides to it that I didn’t remember from Christie’s work. There’s a love story, which didn’t feature strongly in many of her books, so that seemed very different to me and fresh. Plus it’s quite morally ambiguous, which also appealed to me.

Budgeted at $20 million, The Crooked House is a who-done-it centering on three generations of the Leonides family and the suspicious murder of their multimillionaire patriarch. The clan live together in a huge—and seemingly crooked—mansion.

LaBute, who wrote and directed the delightfully caustic dramas In the Company of Men and Your Friends and Neighbors, is this time working of a script from The Tourist scribe Julian Fellowes and Tim Rose Price. The film is slated for production in the U.K. this summer.

Arterton is currently shooting Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters in Braunschweig, Germany.

Tawny-Amber-Young-Jeans

Model/actress Tawny Amber Young may not have gotten a chance to rock Bret Michaels’ world on VH1’s “Rock of Love,” but she’s making ours spin as go-go dancer Temperance in Freakshow Entertainment’s outrageous ode to exploitation cinema Nude Nuns with Big Guns.

The 5-foot-5, busty stunner has also got a string of indie-frighteners coming down the pike, among them the Joe Hollow slasher Cut, Brandon Slagle’s Vivid, and Eric Anthony Pereira’s cannibal-themed thriller The Locals.

Clatto managed to track Tawny down to talk about these projects and to shoot the shit about nuns, nudity, and nasty little revenge fantasies. Read on and don’t forget to visit Tawny at her Facebook page.

Photos are via iStudio.

Tawny-Amber-Young-Yellow-Thong

MUERTOS: Nude Nuns with Big Guns. A lot of actresses would run away from a title like that. What made you think hell yeah I’m in?

TAWNY: Yes, the title makes people raise an eyebrow and wonder (laughs)! I had to explain myself a number of times to friends about what the movie is about. I love it though. The title does pull people in! The title didn’t scare me away though. I beat my own drum and play characters that interest me. It just sounded like it would be a lot of fun, and it was!

MUERTOS: Tell us about your character Temperance?

TAWNY: Temperance is one of Chavo’s girls. She’s fun, good at pool and loves to watch the other girls with Chavo! She’s a go-go dancer at their Biker bar.

MUERTOS: What was your favorite scene in the movie to shoot?

TAWNY: All of it was so much fun it’s hard to pick. I’d have to go with the pool table scene since it gave me something to do in-between resetting. I also had fun in my scene with Devanny Pinn!

Tawny-Amber-Young

MUERTOS: Have you ever met a scary nun in your life?

TAWNY: No I can’t say that I have. I do come from a strong catholic family though, so I’ve heard stories from the past of nuns with rulers and hitting my grandma on her left hand since she was left handed. I’m left handed and I’m happy that doesn’t happen anymore.

MUERTOS: There’s a lot of nudity in NNBG. In your modeling career, you have done nude shoots. How much harder is it to do on film?

TAWNY: I don’t know if I would say nudity is harder on film, it’s just different. With film you just keep moving and playing your character and in modeling you hold poses. Both situations have a crew so the number of people isn’t really a factor. Both try to make you as comfortable as possible. Now, I’m just use to it. It’s not a big deal.

MUERTOS: Does it concern you at all that those scenes often end up leaked online?

TAWNY: No it doesn’t bother me at all. It may bother the producer and director more than me (laughs). Modeling for Playboy has put my photos out their already so there is no going back and trying to hide. I just embrace it. I’m proud of what I’m rockin’ and a little more P.R. and more fans is always a good thing.

Tawny-Amber-Young-Motorcycle

MUERTOS: God bless you! NNBG is a violent revenge thriller in which Sister Sarah shoots, stabs, maims, and murders those who raped and left her for dead. If you were to even the score with all who have wronged you, what would your weapon of choice be and why?

TAWNY: That is a brilliant question and tons have done me dirty (laughs)! I do the killing-with-kindness thing now, but that’s no fun. Hypothetically, I’d probably have to knock them out and play plastic surgeon on them 🙂 But, Gerard Butler stole that idea in Law Abiding Citizen. Mine would just be cleaner and I’d wear a sexy nurse outfit!

MUERTOS: Nice. Would any of your victims be castmates from “Rock of Love?”

TAWNY: I wasn’t there long enough to gain enemies. Some girls were starting to get on my nerves a little, but none were close enough for a good killing. Probably just good enough for a kick down a set of stairs.

Tawny-Amber-Young-Suspenders

MUERTOS: What can you tell us about your roles in Vivid and Cut?

TAWNY: I don’t wanna give away too much so I’ll give ya a little bite. In Vivid I play a character called the Nymph. The scenes are just very colorful and bright, it’s a very seductive and entrancing. In Cut I play Maria, a member of this really messed up, confused sadistic family. Maria just finds herself conflicted as to what she whats to do and what side she truly stands on.

MUERTOS: Will there be more horror/sci-fi projects in your future? Any you can tip us off to now?

TAWNY: I’m actually working on The Locals which is directed by Eric Anthony Pereira and has great talent like Devanny Pinn, Brandon Slagle, Erik Preston, and Angie Savage. We are almost wrapped on that. Also just signed up to do Bloody Wedding a couple days ago. I don’t have much info on this one but the script is fun. So I’m working on two at the same time! I’m very excited!!!

MUERTOS: What is the best horror/sci-fi film ever made?

TAWNY: I really am a fan of House of a 1000 Corpses! It’s just so out there. I wouldn’t want to be in those situations at all. I love the series called ” Dead Set.” It’s about the zombie apocalypse while focusing on people doing the show ” Big Brother”. It’s based in England. It’s awesome!

Tawny-Amber-Young-Sexy

MUERTOS: What about the lamest?

TAWNY: A few of the recent ones in my memory that I’m not a fan of are “The Zombies Diaries” for one. I didn’t even get that one. It was all over the place. The transition with scenes and the characters was confusing. I was lost and then disappointed. I was yelling at the screen during the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. That was just HORRIBLE.

I wasn’t a fan of The Last Exorcism. It could’ve been so much better. The ending left me empty. All this build up with no finish (laughs).

MUERTOS: Personally, what scares and/or freaks the shit out of you?

TAWNY: Zombies!!!!! I’m one of those people that thinks it will actually happen.

kate-bosworth-straw-dogs-gun

Sony Screen Gems has let the dogs out!

The trailer for director Rob Lurie’s upcoming remake of Sam Peckinpah’s controversial 1971 home-invasion thriller Straw Dogs has arrived. James Marsden and Kate Bosworth star as David and Amy Sumner, a married couple terrorized by Louisiana hicks and Amy’s ex-boyfriend Charlie, played by Alexander Skarsgard.

Peep it:

Synopsis for the remake reads:

David and Amy Sumner, a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father’s death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy’s ex-boyfriend Charlie, leading to a violent confrontation.

Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs was set in England and followed a mousy mathematician (Dustin Hoffman) and his wife (Susan George) as they tried to rebuild their marriage in a countryside village while gradually being terrorized by rape-happy rapscallions.

The original film also featured a lengthy rape scene in which Amy appears to submit willingly to Charlie midway through the assault. According to Bosworth, who is rumored to have gone nude for the part, the remake remains “bold” and is “not watered down in the parts that people are going to be curious about.”

Straw Dogs bullies its way into theaters on Sept. 16.

Sasha Grey Raped, Ravished, & Ready for Revenge in ‘Skinny Dip’

Sasha-Grey-Skinny-Dip-Movie

Director Frankie Latina is assembling quite a motley crew of actors to star in Skinny Dip, his comedic ode to exploitation cinema. The cast currently includes former porn star Sasha Grey, ’70s sex-pot Pam Grier, reality show tragedy Brigitte Nielson, tough guys Michael Madsen and Bill Moseley, and everyone’s favorite Mexi-can Danny Trejo.

The film stars Grey as a nice girl who on a dare goes for nude swim and gets caught up in a storm that delivers her to the beach where a group of college football players have gathered to party and gang-rape.

When local law enforcement fails to provide justice, she takes matters into her own hands—which brings us to the film’s tagline: “They took her bikini. They took her virginity. She took her revenge.”

Production on the rape/revenge thriller is set to begin next month in Santa Marta, Colombia.

HBO Provides a Taste of What’s to Come On ‘True Blood’ Season 4

True-Blood-Season-4

HBO has finally released a trailer for the upcoming fourth season of its vampire soap “True Blood” that provides a peek at what’s to come. Normally, I’d give you a recap of where the show left off, but—for the life of me—I just can’t remember. It was good though … just like your sister.

“True Blood” season four premieres on June 26.

Scout Taylor-Compton Goes Into ‘The Darkness’

Scout-Taylor-Compton-Darkness

Actress Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween) is set to join Michael Biehn (The Victim) and Frances Fisher (The Roommate) in writer/director Simon Foster’s blackout thriller The Darkness. The project will roll camera on June 8 in Louisiana.

The synopsis reads:

When the world is plunged into darkness, Greg Stonehaven has to somehow get to his children two hundred miles away.

All forms of communication have stopped working. No cell phones, no Internet, no television, and to make matters worse the absence of sunlight is resulting in regular power failures as the electrical grid struggles with unprecedented demand.

It soon completely fails. People are confused and very frightened and their only sources of artificial light will soon run out.

I think I saw this when it was called The Vanishing on Seventh Street.

Compton’s horror creds include the AfterDark 8 Films to Die For entry Wicked Little Things and the Butcher Brothers’ remake of the 1986 comedic-slasher April Fool’s Day. The pretty 22-year-old, however, is best known for taking on the iconic role of Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2 re-imaginings.
