DreamWorks has released a short featurette for director Jon Favreau’s big screen adaptation of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens, arriving in theaters on July 29. Along with some BTS footage, the clip features Favreau and producers Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg discussing the project, its cast, and the source material.
Peep it:
Set in the mid 19th century, Cowboys & Aliens follows gunslinger Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), Ella Verity (Olivia Wilde), and Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) as they set out to stop an alien race from enslaving humankind.
Costars include Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2), Walton Goggins (Predators), Clancy Brown (”LOST”), Abigail Spencer (Haunting in Georgia), Keith Carradine (“Dexter”), Paul Dano (Taking Lives), Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre), and Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers).
Anchor Bay Entertainment has set an Aug. 23 home-video release date for director Eric Valette’s (One Missed Call) ode to killer car flicks Super Hybrid. The film stars pretty Canadian up-and-comer Shannon Beckner (American Pie: Beta House), who—according to her IMDB bio—had to learn how to weld to get the role (those Hollywood casting guys sure are a kinky bunch).
The film’s synopsis reads:
Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident. The on-call mechanics soon discover the car has a mind of its own. With hundreds of horsepower and two tons of reinforced steel at its command, it’s a seemingly unstoppable killing machine capable of outrunning — and outwitting — humans.
Super Hybrid costars the very sexy Melanie Papalia (American Pie: Book of Love), Ryan Kennedy (“Hellcats”), and Oded Fehr (Resident Evil: Extinction).
“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” fans will have to wait till January 2012 for the premiere of the show’s second season, “Spartacus: Vengeance,” but those attending this year’s Comic Con convention in San Diego, CA will get an early introduction to Liam McIntyre, the actor stepping into original Spartacus lead Andy Whitfield’s sandals.
Starz announced today that it will host a “Spartacus: Vengeance” panel at Comic-Con on July 21 at 5:45pm PT in Room 6BCF. Joining McIntyre and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight on stage will be costars Dustin Clare, Lucy Lawless, Manu Bennett, and the beautiful Katrina Law.
While I look forward to seeing Spartacus (McIntyre) cross paths with Gannicus (Clare), and am curious to see how Lucretia (Lawless) will fit into season two, I’m thrilled to see that Law’s escaped House of Batiatus slave Mira will have an ongoing story arch.
As far as I’m concerned, Dexter Morgan can do no wrong. But, for many of you, season five of Showtime’s hit serial killer drama “Dexter” proved to be a let down from past seasons, especially four. Well, looks like Showtime got your anthrax-coated memos. The network has released a new promo in which Dex, himself, assures fans that he’s going back to his old ways.
Warner Bros. held the world premiere for DC Entertainment’s Green Lantern last night at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The film’s attractive stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were joined on the green carpet by their unattractive costars Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, and Peter Sarsgaard.
Also spotted on the scene were “Smallville” super-hottie Laura Vandervoort, a milfy Angela Bassett, “Dancing with the Stars” dancer and May 2011 Playboy covergirl Karina Smirnoff, and the hilarious Jason Bateman.
A trailer for director John Stockwell’s (Turistas) upcoming shark thriller Dark Tide is circling the web. The film stars Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry as a diving instructor who returns to the island waters where she narrowly survived a great white shark attack.
The film was written by professional shark diver/journalist Amy Sorlie and costars Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful), Ralph Brown (Alien 3), Luke Tyler (Dredd), and Sizwe Msutu (In My Country). It was shot in South Africa off the coast of Seal Island in False Bay, home to over 64,000 seals and the sharks who love them.
Press On Features and Black and Blue Films have released a trailer for director Dominic Burns’ in-flight frightener Airborne. British actress/model Gemma Atkinson stars in the flm as Harriett, a passenger aboard a jumbo jet carrying an ancient evil that has gotten loose and is driving people crazy.
Airborne costars Fiona Ryan (”The Tudors”), Kimberly Jaraj (I Can’t Think Straight), Julian Glover (Mirrors), Craig Conway (The Descent), Sebastian Street (Stag Night of the Dead), and Alan Ford (Exorcist: The Beginning).
What ever happened to the middle part of The Human Centipede? We know the head (Akihiro Kitamura) went on to guest star on NBC’s “Heroes” and that the tail (Ashlynn Yennie) will soon be seen in the canine frightener Fetch and The Human Centipede sequel. But what’s Ashley C. Williams up to these days?
Well, it turns out Williams is heading to our small screens in Vanguard Cinema’s oh-shit-the-world-is-out-of-gas post apocalyptic drama Empty, arriving on DVD on July 26.
Peep it:
The film’s lengthy synopsis reads:
Charming young slacker Dell Hansard is in love with beautiful Piper. He makes an impromptu proposal on a weeklong camping trip, but Piper, the daughter of a wealthy businessman hesitates.
On their way home they stop at a gas station, and are surprised to find signs reading “closed indefinitely due to the gas crisis.” Having been away for a few days the young couple does not realize the world is in the grip of crisis. They are stuck in the middle of nowhere and soon find out they must fend for their lives.
They sleep at a nearby abandoned motel where a manipulative manager swindles them out of their last dollars. The crisis worsens when they are robbed of everything valuable they have. This is more than a crisis, the young lovers have returned to a world that has been completely turned on its head.
This may well be the end of the world as they know it, and they never knew what happened. Can they stick together and survive, or is their love not strong enough for the challenge?
Empty is writer/director C.S. Drury feature film debut and costars newcomers Jon Carlo, Barry McBrien, John Woodruff and Neicy Cerice.
‘Big Bang” starlet Kaley Cuoco is set to star opposite Rob Lowe in Lifetime’s upcoming based-on-a-true-story murder mystery The Drew Peterson Story: Aka Ladykiller. Peterson is a 57-year-old former police sergeant currently awaiting trial for the 2004 murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio. He is also the prime suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy.
Cuoco has been cast to play 23-year-old Stacy Peterson. Stacy, who went missing in October of 2007, has yet to be found and is believed to be dead. Her mysterious disappearance led detectives to reopen the Kathleen Savio case, which up until last year had been ruled an accidental death (bathtub drowning). After exhuming Savio’s body, it was determined that she had been murdered after a struggle.
Lowe will portray Drew Peterson, who commented to his lawyer today:
If I was ever in a movie, I was hoping I would be portrayed by Denzel Washington, but I guess Rob Lowe is OK.
Peterson is being held on $20 million and resides at the Will County Jail in Illinois.
The Drew Peterson Story: Aka Ladykiller is based on Herald News reporter Joseph Hosey’s book “Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson.” It’s adapted for the small screen by Teena Booth, who wrote a Lifetime movie on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
Cuoco currently plays love interest Penny on the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang.” She also starred as jailbait John Ritter’s daughter, Bridgette Hennessy, on ABC’s “8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.”
“LOST” star Matthew Fox is looking to enlist opposite Brad Pitt in Paramount Pictures’ big screen adaptation of author Max Brooks novel “World War Z.” Fox joins a cast that includes Mirielle Enos (“The Killing”), Julia Levy-Boeken (Road Trip: Beer Pong), and James Badge Dale (The Grey).
World War Z is set ten years after a zombie apocalypse and follows a UN researcher (Pitt) as he collects testimonials from survivors around the world. Fox is rumored to be playing a parachute trooper. The film is directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and goes into production this month.
Fox, best known for playing Jack Shepard on ABC’s greatest show ever “LOST,” will also be seen in director Rob Cohen’s (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) adaptation of the James Patterson novel I, Alex Cross. He plays serial killer Michael “The Butcher of Sligo” Sullivan.
