‘Aquaman’ Goes Rock Lobster!

aquaman

Warner Bros. released this week its first trailer for Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa as the would-be king of the underwater world of Atlantis and one-time laughingstock of DC’s Super Friends. This time out, however, the merman has lost his goldie locks and sensitive Pisces nature and gone rock lobster.

Helmed by Saw and Conjuring director James Wan, Aquaman finds our musclebound reluctant hero fighting enemies on land and sea while falling for the sexy Atlantean (Amber Heard) urging him to take his throne as king of Atlantis. Much of the CG looks bad, but Momoa is cool and you gotta trust in Wan.

AMC has released a trailer for the second half of “Fear the Walking Dead’s” fourth season. Returning Aug. 12, the impressively revamped show finds its survivors split in Texas during a massive storm so strong it hurls the dead sky high!

Under its new showrunners, “Fear the Walking Dead” has become far more gritty and embolden in its storytelling, going as far as to lose its original heroes the Clarks, except for hot daughter Alycia Debnam-Carey, while introducing new characters in thoughtfully crafted episodes reminiscent of early “Walking Dead.”

To be fair, the show had already show signs of life by the end of season two and by three was up on its own feet with an intriguing narrative. Still, the new season is much better and “Walking Dead’s” Morgan is far less annoying here despite signs that he may still be bonkers.

‘Walking Dead’ Season 9 Is Going to Be Brutal!

walking-dead-michonne

AMC unleashed a five-minute-plus trailer for “The Walking Dead’s” upcoming ninth season today at SDCC. Set to premiere Oct. 7, the show finds Rick Grimes and his people attempting to build civilization for Alexandria and its allied communities after defeating the Saviors and imprisoning their leader, Negan, in last season’s All Out War.

The new season promises to be the drama’s most polarizing and controversial to date for a variety of reasons leaked early on by entertainment sites and trades and now confirmed at SDCC — reasons we won’t expand on should you be fortunate enough to be living under a rock and not have assholes spoil every detail for you.

The trailer is absolutely awesome and does a great job of hinting at the white-knuckle thrills to come. Sure, we’re disappointed to see Tara waddling around, but Rick and Michonne are kicking ass, Negan still has teeth, Daryl and Carol are bonding, Maggie’s let her hair down, Jerry’s got a girlfriend, zombies are sicker than ever, and, holy crap, did you see Rosita’s pants?

Nathan Fillion Is Nathan Drake In ‘Uncharted’ Short Film!

nathan-fillion-uncharted

Perhaps drawing inspiration from Ryan Reynolds’ leaked Deadpool footage, Nathan Fillion stars as wise-cracking treasure hunter Nathan Drake in a 15-minute short film by director Allan Ungar (Gridlocked) based on the Naughty Dog video game, Uncharted.

A film adaptation of the game has been struggling to see light of day for years, during which fans of its hero, Nathan Drake, have hoped against hope Fillion, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the character in looks and manner, would score the role.

Unfortunately, Sony is currently envisioning a younger Drake, tapping Tom Holland (Spiderman: Homecoming) for the part some time ago. But, that’s not stopping Fillion and Ungar from finally making fans happy — and proving to Hollywood how the “Firefly” star truly owns it.

The Uncharted short film itself is a blast and co-stars Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe) as Drake’s sidekick Sully and Mircea Monroe (Fifty Shades of Black) as his lady and photojournalist Elena. Drake’s smart-ass quips are gold and the action resembles the game in tone and actual shots! If not the big screen, here’s hoping it makes it to the small.

Everyone In ‘Unfriended: Dark Web’ Should Bite It Hard!

unfriended-darkweb

Blumhouse Tilt has released a new trailer for Unfriended: Dark Web, a sequel to its underrated 2014 cyber-thriller Unfriended — a supernatural tale about a vengeful suicide spirit told from the computer screen of one of its intended victims.

Unfriended: Dark Web is shot in similar manner, but this time out follows a college dude who finds hidden human trafficking files on his new laptop and soon discovers someone is watching his every move through his webcam. It’s slated for release July 20.

Hailed as Blumhouse’s most evil film, Dark Web sounds pretty cool, but, damn, those kids are annoying. You just know they’re unaware, entitled and privileged self-obsessed snowflakes. Give me the sex-hungry kids of old-school slashers any day. Screw these brats in the neck. May they die horribly.

Cate Shortland to Direct Scarlett Johansson In Standalone ‘Black Widow’

black-widow-scarlett-johansson

Aussie director Cate Shortland will helm Marvel Studio’s eagerly awaited Black Widow, a standalone film set before the events of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Scarlett Johansson is once again on board as the sexy, redheaded spy-turned-superhero.

Shortland doesn’t have much to her filmmaker credits, but she did win genre fans over with the suspenseful abduction thriller Berlin Syndrome, starring Teresa Palmer as an Australian photographer taken hostage while on holiday in Germany by the seemingly affable high school teacher she meets while sightseeing (it ranked in our list of 10 Sexiest Horror Films of 2017)

Black Widow was introduced in 2010’s Iron Man 2. No word on plot details for Shortland’s standalone film, but it is written by Jac Schaeffer, the scribe behind Olaf’s Frozen Adventure short… so you know it’s going to be good 😛

Neill Blomkamp Directing ‘Robocop Returns’… We’ll Buy That for a Dollar!

robocop

District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp is set to take the helm on MGM’s newest Robocop reboot, Robocop Returns. The film is described as a true sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi classic about a veteran police officer murdered by criminals and brought back to life as a cyborg crime fighter by the OmniCorp corporation.

Blomkamp tells Deadline:

As long as the human component is there, a good story can work in any time period, it’s not locked into a specific place in history. What’s so cool about RoboCop is that like good Westerns, sci-fi films and dramas, the human connection is really important to a story well told. What draws me now is someone searching for their lost identity, taken away at the hands of people who are benefiting from it, and seeing his memory jogged by events. That is most captivating.

Justin Rhodes, screenwriter on the upcoming Terminator and Masters of the Universe reboots, has been tapped to rewrite a script by original Robocop writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner — now serving as producer and executive producer, respectively.

Robocop was recently rebooted in 2013 by MGM and Sony Pictures with Jose Padilha directing what would be a slick, but ultimately bland entry — notable only in its foolish decision to skip out on the brutally memorable attack that would lead to Alex Murphy’s Robocop transformation (at least he didn’t fly though).

Jacqueline Wright Meets Rapey, Violent Man of Her Dreams In ‘Eat Me’

jacqueline-wright-eat-me-sex

There’s nothing Clatto enjoys more than a romance tale, especially one between unlikely couples going against the odds to come together. It’s why we’re excited for Eat Me, a controversial home invasion thriller about an emotionally wrecked woman who on the night of her suicide attempt meets the rapey and violent intruder of her dreams.

Critics are having a difficult time with the sexual abuse and violence (rape, sodomy, golden showers, puppy-play — no anal tho :(), but remain generous in their review of screenwriter and lead Jacqueline Wright, who adapted the screenplay from her own stage play.

We just hope these crazy kids make it!

The Hollywood Reporter calls Eat Me a “repugnant showcase” and would not describe the scenes it found offensive, noting in their review:

Bob decides to take advantage of Tommy’s vulnerable state. He proceeds to sexually assault her and perform a series of other humiliating and violent atrocities as she remains nearly comatose (For the sake of the reader’s delicate sensibilities, the specific acts won’t be described here, but only those with very strong stomachs should dare seeing the film.)

Our stomachs routinely survive the menu at Taco Bell so we’re sure Eat Me will sit just fine with us. Eat Me is now playing in selected theaters and streaming platforms.
