T-Mobile Girl Carly Foulkes Gets Dialed Into ‘Powers’

T-Mobile-Girl-Bikini

Canadian model/actress Carly Foulkes is the pretty brunette currently seen across the country shilling T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G on TV and billboards. But, that may soon change. The leggy 5-foot-9, 22-year-old babe has scored her first major acting role on the FX superhero pilot “Powers.”

Show creator Brian Michael Bendis told the folks at Geektime radio on Sirius XM Howard 100 that Foulkes had been cast to play Retro Girl, the murdered heroine whose case is being investigated by “Powers” detectives Christian Walker (Jason Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch).

Said Bendis:

A couple of weeks ago, we cast a woman named Carly Foulkes to be Retro Girl. You’re sitting there going, ‘Who’s that?’ That is the super, super cute T-Mobile girl.

The first arc details the death of Retro Girl, a popular and powerful super-heroine. Retro Girl is in fact a legacy of women – with or without powers – who are continuously reincarnated.

“Powers” is the name of the civilian police force assigned to investigating crimes involving people with super powers. The pilot, directed by Michael Dinner (”The Wonder Years”) and penned by Charles Eglee (”Dark Angel”), is based on the comic book series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

“Powers” is slated to go into production late next month in Chicago.

Who Wants to Go ‘Inside the Whore’?

viktoria-winge-whore

If you hate women because you caught your girl banging eight black guys or, maybe, your mother just forgot to buy milk for your Froot Loops this morning, you’ll want to check out Norwegian director Reinert Kiil’s new micro-budgeted slasher Inside the Whore, a sequel to his ridiculous—but gruesome—2009 effort The Whore.

Peep the hate:

The flick’s official synopsis reads:

While shooting the sequel to The Whore, director Reinert Kiil and his director of photography join forces in an effort to make the ugliest and most grotesque film ever made.

During production outside Kvam in Bergen, the crew and actors notice that there is something weird and strange going on when friends and colleagues begin to die in brutal ways.

The question is whether it is the Whore who has come to life looking for revenge or whether it’s actually the director who gets his dream come true about making the most horrible movie ever.

Oh, I see. The demented rapist/killer is played by Kiil himself because this is an artsy-fartsy meta film. Color me skeptical, but I have a strong feeling Kiil is jacking off to this every night before crying himself to sleep because the pretty girls won’t let him shit on their chests.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my rape/revenge thrillers to be handled by folks with a strong sense of story-telling (I Spit On Your Grave) and/or a balls-out sense of humor (Run Bitch Run). In other words, I want to either feel bad for stroking it or laugh till it squirts.

Inside the Whore stars a bevy of Euro babes including Viktoria Winge (pictured above), Kim Sønderholm, Anette Young, Linn Cathrine Sonflå, Lisa Barsten, Aurora Huseth Bjørnhaug, Heidi Ødegaard Mikkelsen, Susanne Estelle, I.C. Hillanes, and porn star Isabel Vibe.

Playing_House

Playing House with Mayra Leal is a lot of fun, especially if you grew up watching flicks like Body Chemistry and Scorned on Cinemax when the folks were away. Directed by newcomer Tom Vaughan, the film centers on a young married couple whose relationship is suddenly threatened by a homicidal seductress hellbent on living the American dream.

Mitch and Jen McKenzie (Craig Welzbacher, Sarah Prikryl) have just moved into their dream house. He’s a doctor looking to make partner at the private practice where he works. She’s a professional chef about to land her own kitchen at an upscale restaurant. Despite their promising careers, the duo find themselves in a financial pinch and so decide to rent out a room to Mitch’s friend Danny (Matt Lusk).

Danny is a good-natured slob who likes to spend his time playing PS3 with Mitch because it helps to keep his mind off Debbie, the cute girl who dumped him after a three year romance. Jen, figuring she’ll do everyone a favor, tells Danny that he should try online dating. Enter Blair (Mayra Leal), a beautiful dark-haired girl with a mysterious past and an aversion to clothes.

Mayra-Leal-Shower-Playing_House

Blair, infatuated with Mitch and his big house, sets out to seduce him. It’s not hard to do. She’s beautiful and he’s sexually frustrated due to his and Jen’s work schedules. Jen’s lack of sexual spontaneity since Danny’s arrival isn’t helping matters much either. Against his better judgement, Mitch goes from peeping a nude Blair in the pool to pawing her in the shower.

To say anything more would be to take away from the fun of watching Vaughan’s ode to old-school erotic thrillers. Just know that Mayra Leal does get naked (and it is wonderful), a cute pet is brutally murdered, and there are two awesome scenes of girl-on-girl violence.

Leal, best known for her memorable—and very naked—turn as a deadly, double-crossing chica in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, plays the femme fatal role with gusto, but still manages to keep her performance grounded despite the outrageous goings-on in the story. Sarah Prikryl as Jen is sympathetic and Craig Welzbacher infuriates as clueless husband Mitch—a credit to both actors’ skills.

Mayra-Leal-Pool-Playing-House

Playing House is a guilty pleasure that—thanks to Leal and a solid script from Vaughan and Kristy Dobkin—is surprisingly better than many of the ’90s erotic thrillers it pays homage to. The film is now available on DVD and can be purchased at Amazon.

‘Chuck’ Starlet Lauren Cohan to Take a Stroll with ‘The Walking Dead’

Lauren-Cohan-Walking-Dead

Lauren Cohan is going to be surrounded by stiffies this October when AMC’s hit zombie series “The Walking Dead” returns for its second season. The 28-year-old actress has been cast as Maggie Greene, daughter to veterinarian Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) and love interest to Glenn (the Asian guy).

Cohan tells TV Guide:

If Maggie’s entrance is anything to go by, we have a lot to look forward to. She wears jeans, kick-ass boots and rides a horse. She’s very steely and views Glenn as a leader and the cutest of the bunch. When you walk in [the farm], you get a sense of the happy family memories that were there and the desperation of how they live now.

Season two of “The Walking Dead” will find the show’s survivors seeking refuge at the Greene’s farm. Along with Maggie and Hershel, the group will meet the Greene’s old ranch hand Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince). Production on the 13-episode series is already underway in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cohan currently plays recurring baddie Vivian Volkoff on NBC’s “Chuck.” She’s also starred as relic thief Bela Talbot on The CW’s “Supernatural” and Rose, a 500-year-old vampire, on the network’s sister series “The Vampire Diaries.”

Cohan can also be seen opposite Tanit Phoenix and Danny Trejo in Universal’s home-video original Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives.

stella-maeve-hot

Stella Maeve, last seen as bad girl Zoe in MTV’s My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2, is starring in director Gregory Orr’s creepy evil clone thriller Recreator. The pretty 21-year-old plays Tracy Bernstein, one of three friends who discover they’ve been cloned while on holiday.

Trapped by their captors, the teenagers are no match for their physically stronger, faster, better selves. Their only hope is to outwit them and to escape with their lives before they are replaced.

Maeve will soon be seen in director Susanna Lo’s Manson Girls, a bio-pic that follows the violent and psychosexual lives of eight female Charles Manson cult members.

Shall We Play a Game? Who’s Up for a ‘WarGames’ Reboot

wargames-poster

MGM announced today that it is remaking its Oscar nominated—and just plain awesome—1983 thriller WarGames. According to Deadline, the studio has put the property in director Seth Gordon’s (Horrible Bosses) hands and is giving him a “wide berth” to update the story to better fit our hacker happy times.

Gordon tells Collider:

I love the original. I’m a bit of a hacker fanatic, and know a fair bit about that industry and cyber crime and cyber warfare. I have a real point-of-view on the material and how things have changed. And also, I think the politics of the world have changed in really fascinating ways since 1983.

There’s no longer a monolithic evil empire somewhere, spreading a different philosophy of life. That doesn’t exist. It’s a much more complicated, nuanced, political world we’re in, and I think that actually makes for a more interesting plot to tell. Frankly, cyber attack is a lot more real.

WarGames was originally directed by John Badham and starred Matthew Broderick as David Lightman, a computer hacker who unwittingly gets World War III underway when he hacks into a military super computer and engages it in a game of—say it with me—Global Thermonuclear War.

The film was a box office success and went on to earn Academy Award nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Cinematography. It also launched the careers of Broderick and costar Ally Sheedy (Short Circuit).

It’s too early to know who will star in the WarGames reboot, but here’s hoping Broderick and Dabney Coleman (Cloak & Dagger), who played NORAD engineer Dr. John McKittrick, get a cameo. Coleman’s still alive, right? Or is he dead like Sheedy?
