Alison Pill (“The Newsroom”) is co-starring in Cooties, a horror-comedy from producer Elijah Wood and screenwriters Leigh Whannell (SAW) and Ian Brennan (“Glee”). The film marks the feature film debut of directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion.

Cooties finds a group of elementary school teachers banding together to fight against a rabid student body infected by a mysterious virus. The film co-stars Rainn Wilson (“The Office”), Jack MacBrayer (“30 Rock”), Nasim Pedrad (“Saturday Night Live”) and Jorge Garcia (“LOST”).

Pill currently stars on HBO’s “The Newsroom” as News Night associate producer Margaret Jordan. Her genre creds include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (she played Pilgrim’s drummer Kim Pine) and the upcoming sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer.

Summer Glau has scored a recurring role on season two of The CW’s new hit series “Arrow”… Uh-Oh.

Well, it was good while it lasted. At least it wasn’t Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not hating on Glau. She’s a talented actor and made Clatto’s list of the 20 Hottest Women Working in Horror/Sci-Fi. But, let’s face it. Glau is to TV shows what a dead albatross is to a sailor: bad news.

Glau came to fame on Joss Whedon’s gone-to-soon sci-fi western “Firefly.” She has since spelled doom for a string of popular shows, including “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Dollhouse,” “The Cape,” “The Unit” and “Alphas.”

Deadline reports that Glau will play the recurring role of dangerous businesswoman Isabel Rochev. Here’s hoping the curse is broken!

Carla Gugino (Sin City) is set to star alongside Matt Dillon and Melisa Leo in Chad Hodge (“Playboy Club”) and M. Night Shyamalan’s new Fox limited series “Wayward Pines.” The ten-episode mystery thriller is based on the Blake crouch novel of the same name and is described to have a “Twin Peaks” vibe.

“Wayward Pines” follows a Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Dillon) on assignment to find two missing federal agents in the Idaho town of wayward Pines. What he finds are mysterious and sinsiter happenings that threaten the very core of who he is as a person.

According to THR, Gugino plays Wayward Pines resident Kate Hewson, Burke’s former lover and ex-partner in the Secret Service. The series was penned by Hodge and is slated to debut in 2014.

Syfy is set to premiere tonight The Asylum’s eagerly anticipated Sharknado, an epic genre hybrid mixing killer weather with man-eating sharks. The film stars Ian Ziering, Cassie Scerbo, John Heard and Tara Reid, in her most daring emotional role since E’s “Taradise.”

Sharknado follows a divorced Venice Beach bar owner (Ziering) as he searches for his estranged family after a hurricane hits the city. Making the quest a real bitch are the deadly sharks being hurled into the city by a massive tornado.

Scream queen Christa Campbell and producing partner Lati Grobman are teaming up with Millennium Films and Taurus Entertainment to remake George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead, a 1985 sequel to Romero’s Dawn of the Dead that finds the U.S. military attempting to gain control after a zombie apocalypse.

Grobman tells Deadline:

Our Day of the Dead will honor Romero’s original vision by reviving the slow, brooding zombie that terrorized so many of our childhoods.

The trend of the fast, agile, ‘sprinting’ zombie creates a lot of great jump-out-of-your-seat moments, but it doesn’t compare to the psychological fear and tension that builds when going up against Romero’s original undead army.

Our goal is to reset the genre by finding the perfect balance between nostalgia and modernity, all while crafting a story that has both heart and brains — literally.

The remake is budgeted at $10-$20 million and is slated to go into production in winter for a 2014 release. Campbell and Grobman produced this year’s Texas Chainsaw 3-D, a sequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that picks up decades after the events of the 1974 Tobe Hooper classic.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the first trailer for director Sergei Bodrov’s The Seventh Son, an adaptation of author Joseph Delaney’s “The Wardstone Chronicles,” the first volume in his young-adult series “The Spook’s Apprentice.”

Jeff Bridges stars as Master Gregory, a knight who centuries ago imprisoned the evil blood-witch Mother Malkin, played by the still bewitching Julianne Moore. When the witch escapes, Gregory must face her once again. Chronicles of Narnia’s Ben Barnes co-stars as Tom Ward, Gregory’s young apprentice.

Rounding out the cast are Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”), Djimon Hounsou (The Island), Olivia Williams (Last Days on Mars), Antje Traue (Man of Steel) and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina). The film arrives in theaters on Jan. 17, 2014.

FilmDistrict has released a red-band trailer for Spike Lee and screenwriter Mark Protosevich’s (I Am Legend) American remake of South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s revenge thriller Oldboy, starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Lance Reddick, Michael Imperioli and Samuel Jackson.

Oldboy tells the tale of an advertising executive (Brolin) who is abducted and held captive in a hotel room for 20 years for no apparent reason. When he is finally released without explanation, he sets out to find and take vengeance on those responsible, but discovers that he is still caught up in their game.

Oldboy opens in theaters on Oct. 25.

FX premieres tonight its new 13-episode crime series “The Bridge,” starring Diane Kruger as a U.S. detective suffering from Asperger’s (take that “Homeland”) who teams up with a Mexican detective, played by Demian Bichir (“Weeds”), to catch a serial killer terrorizing the border of El Paso and Juarez.

Kruger tells Collider:

The setting between Mexico and America is unique, and I don’t think it’s been done on television before. And I think the backdrop of the unsolved crimes, with the missing girls from Juarez, and the relationship between America and Mexico, is very interesting to see and shine a light on.

I think that the two characters, Marco Ruiz and Sonya Cross, are an unusual combination of detectives. The show’s not your usual cop show. It’s a very character-driven show. And you think the show’s about one thing, but then it goes in directions that will be quite unexpected.

Kruger is coming of Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s tween sci-fi novel “The Host.” She is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Abigail Chase in Walt Disney Pictures’ National Treasure franchise and as actress/spy Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

Magnet Releasing announced today that it has acquired the U.S. rights to Focus Features International’s new sci-fi thriller The Last Days On Mars. The film marks the feature film debut of Ruairi Robinson and stars Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan”), Olivia Williams (“Dollhouse”) and stunner Romola Garai (pictured).

The synopsis reads:

On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life.

Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory, he goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses, and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death.

His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora.

Garai is best known for her work in dramatic fare your mom watches such as the period drama Atonement, the Anne Hathaway romance One Day and the Liam Neeson and Antonio Banderas relationship thriller The Other Man. The British babe has only one horror cred to her name: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

The Last Days On Mars will be released on VOD later this year.

New photos have gone online for Mummy director Stephen Sommers’ legally delayed adaptation of Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas, starring Anton Yelchin (Fright Night), Willem Dafoe (Antichrist), Addison Timlin and Addison Timlin’s breasts (”Californication”).

Posted below, you’ll find the a string of images featuring Timlin because who wants to see Yelchin and Dafoe’s mugs? That’d be odd. The shots don’t really display much of Timlin’s natural talents, but hint at some sexy PG-13 hotness.

Odd Thomas is a short-order cook (Yelchin) who can speak with the dead and identify evil forces. When a mysterious man arrives in his small California town, Thomas is convinced that doom accompanies the stranger. Caught in the mix are his girlfriend (Timlin) and the local police chief (Dafoe).
