Warner Bros. released today a new trailer for its Suicide Squad spinoff Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Reprising the role of Quinn is Margot Robbie for indie director Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs), working from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee).

Watching the trailer, one thing becomes abundantly clear: this is no Joker and that is very sad. The whole film seems buffoonish when under the direction of, oh, say Tod Phillips it could have been truly dark and gonzo.

And…that’s to say nothing about the pullback on Quinn’s sex appeal. Also, who hires Rosie Perez in 2020? Oh, well, fingers crossed.
