Universal Home Entertainment announced this weekend that it has greenlit Curse of Chucky, the fifth installment in its outrageous killer-doll franchise Child Play. The film, said to be a return to the series darker horror roots, goes into production in Winnipeg in September.
Moviehole broke the news and provides this synopsis:
Chucky arrives to wreck havoc within a family that’s regrouped for a funeral.
In the wake of her mother’s passing, a young woman—in a wheelchair since birth—is forced to put up with her sister, brother-in-law, niece and their nanny as they say their goodbyes to mother.
When people start turning up dead, the fearless Nica discovers the culprit might be a “strange doll” she was sent a couple of days earlier.
Curse of Chucky picks up after the events of Child’s Play 3, skipping over the more comedic sequels Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. Don Mancini, the creator and screenwriter behind the Child’s Play films, is attached to direct. Actor Brad Dourif (Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2) will once again voice the not-so Good Guy doll.
