Fairy tales can come true; it can happen to you, but pray they come from the Mouse House and not 17th century Italian author Giambattista Basile, whose collection of tales “Pentamerone” includes the earliest and most gruesome versions of “Sleeping Beauty,” “Rapunzel,” “Snow White” and “Puss and Boots.”
“Pentamerone,” also known as “Tale of Tales, or Entertainment for Little Ones,” is source material for director Matteo Garrone’s “Tales of Tales,” an enthralling, visually stunning piece of fantasy, starring Vincent Cassel, John C. Reilly, and a ravenous Salma Hayek. A trailer is now online, and it must be seen.
