“Firefly” star Morena Baccarin has landed the female lead in Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Comics’ long gestating superhero project Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds plays the titular antihero in visual effects artist Tim Miller’s feature film debut, releasing Feb. 12, 2016.
Baccarin tweeted:
Thank you all for the good wishes. I am beyond excited to join Ryan Reynolds and f%%€ some s#*t up.
Deadpool is a deformed, foulmouthed, mentally unstable mercenary with regenerative healing powers acquired after an experimental medical procedure to cure his cancer gets botched. Baccarin will play his love interest. The film is reportedly budgeted at $50 million, and expected to be rated a hard R.
Baccarin is best known to genre fans as Companion Inara Serra on Joss Whedon’s beloved but short-lived space-western “Firefly” and NBC’s short-lived reboot “V.” The Brazilian-American stunner most recently starred on Showtime’s “Homeland” and plays young Bruce Wayne’s surrogate mom on Fox’s “Gotham.”
