Dominique Swain is set to star in The Sixth Friend, an indie slasher from director Letia Clouston (“Broken Toy”) and scream queen turned writer Jamie Bernadette (Axeman at Cutter’s Creek), co-starring Jessica Morris (The Dead Want Women), Theresa June-Tao (Battle of Los Angeles) and Sadie Katz (House of Bad).
The synopsis reads:
Six best friends engage in excessive partying and drug use on the night of their college graduation. An uninvited guest commits a horrifying crime on one of the girls, and the girls seek vicious revenge on the perpetrator, which, years later, leads to disastrous results.
The Sixth Friend goes into production in October and is slated for a 2014 release.
Swain made her acting debut at the age 0f 17 in Adrian Lyne’s controversial adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita and John Woo’s sci-fi actioner Face/Off. Her genre creds include mirror-witch frightener Dead Mary, the Sasha Grey pulp thriller The Girl from the Naked Eye and the awesomely bad Nazi’s at the Center of the Earth.
Scream queen Danielle Harris spoke with Mr. Skin about her successful career in horror and her one-and-only nude scene for Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake. The interview is a must-read for fans of Harris and for those hoping to see her get nekid in the movies again.
She says:
It wasn’t gratuitous. If it had been gratuitous I wouldn’t have done it. And I trusted [Rob Zombie]. I’m pretty confident anyway, and I’m not really inhibited, so for me it didn’t bother me at all.
It bothered me more that people kept wanting to talk about it after, you know like fans, that’s when it became weird, the realization that it’s not just Rob Zombie and the people on set that saw you naked, but it’s millions of people that saw you naked. That was a little bit like “Oh my god.”
So, there you have it. Stop creeping the girl out. Don’t ask her to autograph your screen capture of her nude boobs with a personalized message like “let’s go motor-boating” or “wish you were here.”
Harris got her start in horror at the age of 11 in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and returned to the franchise nine years later in Rob Zombie’s Halloween. She also starred in Zombie’s Halloween 2 and in Adam Green’s popular Hatchet series.
Harris makes her directorial debut with Among Friends, out on DVD and VOD Aug. 27.
The August issue of New York Magazine ushers in fall fashion with Black Rock actress Lake Bell on its cover and, by the looks of it, birthday suits are gonna be all the rage. Bell’s, adorned by a temporary tattoo created by her tattoo artist husband, is particularly enticing.
The pictorial is most likely meant to coincide with the release of Bell’s feature directorial debut In a World, but it serves as a better companion piece to Katie Aselton’s girls-in-peril thriller Black Rock, in which Bell goes nude with co-star Aselton.
We also think the pic posted above makes Bell look like a sexy Jedi.
Genre babe Scout Taylor-Compton tweeted this week that October would finally see the release of 7500, a ghosts-on-a-plane thriller from Japanese director Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge) and screenwriter Craig Rosenberg (“LOST”).
Compton tweeted:
7500 hits theaters in October! Good day for news.
7500 follows a group of passengers faced with paranormal events after a passenger dies mysteriously on Vista Pacific Flight 7500.
Anchor Bay and Cinetel Films’ have released a second trailer for I Spit On Your Grave 2, a sequel to Steven R. Monroe’s 2010 remake of the controversial 1978 Meir Zarchi rape-revenge thriller. Monroe helms the film, scripted by Thomas Fenton (Saw IV, Chain Letter) and Neil Elman (Mongolian Death Worm).
I Spit On Your Grave 2 stars Jemma Dallender (”Hollyoaks”) as an aspiring model lured to a photo shoot in New York to be raped, tortured and taken to a foreign country where she endures more horrors before being buried alive and left to dead.
The new trailer continues to focus on the penis-friendly portion of the film, which means a ball-chopping trailer can’t be far behind. I Spit On Your Grave 2 will play Los Angeles on Sept. 20 and hit DVD, Blu-ray and VOD on Oct. 7.
Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man) is set to star in Warner Bros’ Midnight Special, a sci-fi drama written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Mud) that finds a father and his eight-year-old son on the run when they discover that the boy has special powers.
Dunst joins a cast that includes Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) and Joel Edgerton (The Thing). Details over the role she plays remain under wraps, but Deadline reports the part as being that of female lead.
Dunst is coming off Lars Von Trier’s apocalyptic thriller Melancholia and Juan Diego Solanas’ sci-fi romancer Upside Down. Her genre creds include Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, The Crow: Salvation, Joe Johnston’s Jumanji and Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire, in which she played child vamp Claudia.
Clatto loves man-eaters… just not the kind with fins and rows of sharp teeth. Those are terrifying. Peep our list of The Ten Hottest Shark Bait Babes.
As always, feel free to take a bite out of the list; tear it to shreds or add your own names. Now, go fish:
10. SARA PAXTON (SHARK NIGHT)
While on vacation at her family’s private lake house, Sara Paxton watches her college chums get turned into chum by would-be snuff movie producers who have dumped a variety of killer sharks into the water for the purpose of videotaping the attacks.
Despite the twisted premise, Shark Night is silly PG-13 fare that stays afloat thanks to Paxton’s dedicated and emotionally powerful bikini acting.
9. SAFFRON BURROWS (DEEP BLUE SEA)
Renny Harlin’s Deep Blue Sea stars British actress Saffron Burrows as Dr. Susan McAlester, an ambitious scientist researching sharks to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Her efforts go overboard when she clones three Mako sharks that run amok of the flooding underwater laboratory.
In one of the film’s most memorable scenes, Burrows is cornered by one of the maneaters as she attempts to recover some of her work from a research room. Fortunately, her smarts kick in and she strips off her wetsuit to safely electrocute the beast with a cable.
8. ANNASOPHIA ROBB (SOUL SURFER)
Annasophia Robb portrays Bethany Hamilton, the 13-year-old surfer who lost an arm to a 14-foot tiger shark in Hawaii. While we hoped that Soul Surfer would take a Jaws 4 “This time it’s personal” approach to Hamilton’s ordeal, producers opted for a more inspirational angle instead.
That may sound off-putting to horror fans, but even the most jaded among them will be moved to tears at the sight of Robb as Hamilton finding the courage to once again tie on a skimpy bikini top.
7. PHOEBE TONKIN (BAIT)
When it rains, it pours. That is the lesson learned by Phoebe Tonkin after she is caught shoplifting at a grocery store moments before it’s held up by hooligans and soon after flooded by a tsunami wave that ushers in man-eating sharks.
Sadly, Tonkin does not sport a bikini or white tee in the flick (the above photo is from a mag shoot), which would have made us root for her gnarly demise (hey, boobs or blood; nobody rides for free) if weren’t for the fact that her character is very brave and looks good wet.
6. BLANCHARD RYAN (OPEN WATER)
Open Water tells the true tale of an American married couple who while scuba-diving on the Great Barrier Reef are accidentally left behind by the dive boat. As the pair drift further away from the dive zone, they soon realize that the only ones coming for them are the maneaters below.
The film is truly dreadful and terrifying, and arguably the best shark film since Jaws. Making things more tragic is that the film’s beautiful star Blanchard Ryan goes nude and is rewarded for her kind and selfless deed with doom.
Halle Berry plays a diving instructor who agrees to take a millionaire adrenalin junkie and his son on a dangerous dive in the same waters where she once lost a diving buddy to a great white shark.
Berry brings her Oscar-winning acting chops to the role, but not her Oscar-winning nudity (Monster’s Ball). None-the-less, her bikini acting is formidable enough to earn her a spot on this most esteemed list.
4. TARA REID (SHARKNADO)
Tara Reid scored her first hit since American Pie in Syfy’s Sharknado, an epic genre hybrid that mixes killer weather with man-eating sharks to humorous effect. Reid plays April Wexler, the estranged wife of a Venice beach bar owner looking to rescue her from an impending sharknado.
Regrettably, Reid doesn’t don a bikini in the film, opting instead for a conservative mommy sweater. It’s not the sexiest of looks, but it doesn’t erase the fact that underneath that sweater is one hot mess.
3. CARMEN ELECTRA (2-HEADED SHARK ATTACK)
Former “Baywatch” star and Playboy Playmate Carmen Electra is maturing in age, but her body and career choices aren’t, and that makes her awesome. 2-Headed Shark Attack finds teachers and students on board a Semester at Sea ship stranded on an atoll after a mutant shark sinks the vessel.
Electra plays second banana to Hulk Hogan’s handsome son Brooke Hogan (Sand Sharks), but steals the show with a dramatic sunbathing scene that makes one worry about her character’s safety for the duration of the film.
2. SARA MALAKUL LANE (SHARKTOPUS)
Sara Malakul Lane is part of a group of scientists led by her father who genetically engineer a shark and octopus hybrid for purposes of homeland security. The creature escapes and sets out to gobble up beach goers in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Lane is a model-turned-actress of English and Thai descent and… that’s all I got. But, hey, what more you need?
1. MELISSA MOLINARO (JERSEY SHORE SHARK ATTACK)
You’re going to need a bigger box of Kleenix.
Stunner Melissa Molinaro plays Nookie in Syfy’s Jersey Shore Shark Attack, a campy shark thriller that spoofs MTV’s “Jersey Shore.” The parody, which marks Molinaro’s horror debut, follows a group of guidos desperately trying to convince officials to shut down the beach after a man is killed by a shark.
This is the second time Molinaro tops a Clatto list. The model and pop singer turned actress also nabbed the number one spot on our list of The Top Ten Babes of Fourth of July Horror.
Magnolia Pictures has released the first trailer for How I Live Now, an apocalyptic thriller from director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), starring Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) as an American teenager whose visit to the U.K. is disrupted by the start of World War III.
How I Live Now is based on English writer Meg Rosoff’s 2004 young-adult novel of the same name and co-stars George MacKay (Defiance), Tom Holland (The Impossible) and Anna Chancellor (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe). Magnolia is eyeballing a fall release for the film through Magnet Releasing.
Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers) is joining the impressive all-star cast of the upcoming Fox event series “Wayward Pines,” a ten-episode mystery from Chad Hodge (”Playboy Club”) and M. Night Shyamalan, based on the Blake Crouch novel of the same name.
“Wayward Pines” follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) on assignment to find two missing federal agents in the Idaho town of Wayward Pines. What he discovers instead are mysterious and sinister happenings that threaten the very core of who he is as a person.
Deadline reports that Lewis will play an affable, shoot-from-the-hip Wayward Pines bartender named Beverly, who knows something ain’t right in the small town.
The series also stars stunner Carla Gugino (Sin City), Academy Award-winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Terence Howard (Iron Man), Shannyn Sossamon (“Mistresses”), Greta Lee and Toby Jones (The Girl). The series is penned by Hodge and is slated to debut in 2014.
Photographer Jeff Zoet has released a series of pics that re-imagine the Scooby Gang as a group of hardcore zombie hunters not unlike Rick Grimes and his “Walking Dead” cohorts. It’s a shame Zoet isn’t a filmmaker because this is the Scooby-Doo adaptation nostalgic horror fans are waiting to see on the big screen.
The photo shoot features Claire Werkiseras as an amply bosomed Daphne, Ashley DeCarolis as an ax-weilding Velma, Matt Diamond as an ascot-less Fred, Roger Kean as a sober-looking Shaggy and Faith the Great Dane as Scoob. Sorry, no sign of Scooby-Dum or Scrappy-Doo.
Zoet’s complete Scooby-Doo vs. the Zombie Apocalypse gallery can be seen on his Facebook page. Below is a Scooby snack. Peep it!
