Tony and Ridley Scott are set to produce an A&E miniseries remake of Michael Crichton’s 1978 organ-harvesting thriller Coma. Adapted by Black Swan co-writer John J. McLaughlin, the story follows a young doctor as she discovers why patients are going brain dead during routine surgeries.
“Six Feet Under” star Lauren Ambrose (pictured above) and “Rescue Me’s” Steven Pasquale are toplining the two-night, four-hour miniseries, which is set to shoot in Atlanta. Costars include James Woods (Straw Dogs), Richard Dreyfuss (Piranha 3-D), Geena Davis (Beetlejuice), Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist), James Rebhorn (Real Steel) and Joe Morton (“Eureka”).
The MGM original starred Michael Douglas, Genevieve Bujold, Richard Widmark and Rip Torn. It is based on author Robin Cook’s 1977 bestselling debut novel.
A&E will premiere “Coma” on Memorial Day 2012.
