Dutch actress Carice Van Houten has been cast for season two of HBO’s Emmy-nominated fantasy drama “Game of Thrones.” The 34-year-old looker will play sorceress Melisandre from the eastern kingdom of Asshai.
Van Houten’s genre creds include Relativity Media’s underrated organ-harvesting actioner Repo Men and director Christopher Smith’s (Severance) bubonic plague thriller Black Death, in which she played a vicious necromancer.
She’ll next star opposite Clive Owen (Children of Men) in Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s (28 Weeks Later) creepy new ghost story Intruders, in theaters Oct. 7.
“Game of Thrones” begins to shoot its second season at the end of the month.
