006_Hilary_Swank_on_set_of_the_resident

Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, The Black Dahlia) has reportedly turned in a bangin’ performance in Hammer Films’ The Resident. The flick is now in post production and marks Hammer’s first high-profile project in years. The old school horror studio was founded in 1934 and is home to such classic titles as The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1958), and To the Devil a Daughter (1976).

"So, Do you Have Rorschach's Number?"

"So, Do you Have Rorschach's Number?"

Swank plays Dr. Juliet Dermer, a tenant who suspects her landlord, played by Jeffrey Dean (Watchmen), is stalking her. The synopsis reads:

Every year, three million single women in America move into an apartment for the first time. They do not know who lived in the apartment before them, they do not know their landlords, and they don’t bother to change the locks. This is the story of one such woman. After separating from her husband, pretty young doctor Juliet Dermer moves to Brooklyn, settling into a new life in a stunning and spacious loft apartment that seems too good to be true. Mysterious occurrences lead her to suspect that she is not alone in her home and quickly her fears become all too real. In a chilling revelation, she discovers that her seemingly charming, young landlord, Max, has developed a dangerous obsession with her. A terrifying game of cat and mouse ensues as Juliet fights to free herself from Max’s sinister intentions.

This erotic and sexy thriller in the vein of Disturbia and Fatal Attraction is written by Antti Jokinen, Robert Orr (Savior) and Erin Cressida Wilson (Fur, Secretary). Antti Jokinen directs.

Look for The Resident in 2010.

Zack Snyder’s ‘Guardians of Ga’Hoole’ Test Screened in Los Angeles Tonight!

1

Who is directing the upcoming animated feature Guardians of Ga’Hoole for Warner Brothers? Zack Snyder is who! The visionary behind such stylized R-rated fare as 300 and Watchmen is spreading his wings to direct his first family-friendly film, adapted from children’s author Kathryn Lasky’s 14 book series of the same name. Actors Huge Jackman, Hugo Weaving, Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Rachel Taylor, and David Wenham are providing voices for the film, produced by Village Roadhouse and Oscar-winning Australian animation house Animal Logic (Happy Feet).

You'd Smile This Big If You Were Stupidly Rich Too!

Based on the first three books in the series, Guardians of Ga’Hoole tells the story of a young barn owl named Soren who sets out with his friends to escape the tyranny of war-mongering evil owls. The film is expected to be released in July or September of 2010. However, audience test screenings have already begun here in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, only those with kids under 14 were allowed to attend. Boy, don’t I feel stupid for abandoning my kids during a screening of The Secret of the NIMH back in ’82. Guess the joke’s on me!

Anyway, y’all do well to keep your eyes peeled for screenings in your area.

The film will also play in 3-D.

The $100 million success of the supernatural thriller Paranormal Activity finds its director Oren Peli with his head in the clouds. Peli, who shot Activity for $15,000 at his home, has begun production on the $5 million budgeted Area 51, his new shaky-cam take on aliens and government cover-up. The story centers on three teenagers and the footage they film while exploring the mysterious Area 51 at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

Peli is keeping tight-lipped over the details, telling Variety that:

I’d rather not say anything about ‘Area 51’ except that I am very pleased to be working with the same team who stood by me for the two or three years it took ‘Paranormal Activity’ to get into theaters.

Unfortunately for Peli, the folks at LatinoReview.com also enjoy uncovering mysteries and have dug up the Area 51 script. To examine portions of the highly classified document, click here.

Good News, Bad News for ‘Saw’ Fans

6a00d8341c630a53ef010535b1d936970b-800wi

Good news and bad news for Saw fans. Lionsgate has announced Oct. 22, 2010 as the release date for Saw 7 in 3-D. Michael Burns, the studio’s vice chairman, told attendees at the Media and Money conference in New York that:

As long as we make money on it we’ll keep doing this. Dirty Dancing still sells 2,000 DVDs a day for the company, and that’s after 20 years.

The bad news? Saw 5 director David Hackl is attached to the project. Fans of the series have been pretty vocal in their disappointment over the fifth chapter of what has become the most successful horror franchise of all time. So, Lionsgate’s decision to bring Hackl back for the seventh installment is … well, puzzling. Personally, I would have kept Saw 6 director Kevin Greutert on board. Saw 6 is the strongest entry in the series since part 3. Read my review here.

(UPDATE: Kevin Greutert will be back to direct Saw 7, but he’s not happy about it. Read the story here.)

Elvira: MILF of the Macabre!

elvira5

She’s shockingly approaching 60, but Elvira can still raise the stiffs with her two giant … incantations. The self-described “Martha Steward of the Macabre” continues to thrill fans old and new with numerous projects, the latest of which is a sexy return to “Movie Macabre” form in horror-hillbilly outfit Ghoultown’s new music video “Mistress of the Dark.” Directed by horror artist and author Gris Grimly (Wicked Nursery Rhymes), the video finds Elvira on her signature red Victorian couch watching the Ghouls as they sing her praises.

(UPDATE: “ELVIRA’S MOVIE MACABRE” IS BACK ON TV. TO GET LISTINGS GO HERE)

Played by Cassandra Peterson, the Mistress of the Dark has been tickling funny bones since making her debut on “Movie Macabre” in 1981. The program featured Elvira ripping on low-budget C-grade horror fare such as Dr. Jeckyll and Sister Hyde, The Incredible Melting Man, and even Blackula.

Elvira crept to the big screen in 1988 with the side-splitting comedy Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. The film, like its star, still holds up well.

Peterson ain’t looking to shabby herself. Take a look for yourself in the following BTS footage from Ghoultown’s “Mistress of the Dark.”

‘Twilight’ Babe Christian Serratos Butt Naked in PETA AD

gallery_enlarged-1109_christian_serratos_peta_00

If there’s one good thing that has come out of clubbing cute baby seals to death for their fur, it’s PETA’s ongoing “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad campaign featuring hot celebrity babes in the buff.

Nineteen-year-old Twilight star Christian Serratos is the latest Hollywood actress to put her ass on the line for the ethical treatment of animals. The cheeky, brunette stunner says she was thrilled to be asked to participate in the project and did not hesitate in accepting the gig.

You can hear it straight from Serratos in the following BTS trailer (guilt-inducing images have been removed for your viewing pleasure):

Serratos plays Angela Weber in the hugely popular Twilight saga. She also starred in Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” and made appearances on the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” series and the Aaron Spelling produced Protestant family drama “7th Heaven.”

Ok. But, Can We Still Flog the Dolphin?

Ok. But, Can We Still Flog the Dolphin?

Personally, I have never been much of an activist. However, Serratos’ nude PETA ad is so damn hot I just might finally remove my baby seal fur boxers to choke the chicken (no one cares about chickens, right?).

The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens Nov. 20.

You can also do your part by purchasing a “Stop Clubbing Baby Seals” T-shirt here.
