Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) is currently at work on a script for his next directorial project Endangered Species. Roth likens his end-of-humanity thriller to J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield and Michael Bay’s Transformers, but with a lot more destruction. The torture-porn king expects to shoot the film next year and has already consulted on the screenplay with his writing guru Quentin Tarantino (Death Proof)
He tells MTV.com:
Quentin actually loved the draft and had some really great suggestions, so I’m tweaking the script. And I’m working out some visual effects tests, which is going to determine how I shoot it.
If Roth can bring his sick and violent sensibilities to Endangered Species, the mass destruction genre will be put on its head. I just hope he avoids the whole Cloverfield shaky-cam thing.
Also on Roth’s plate is the upcoming exorcism flick Cotton, which he produced. He can also be seen chewing up the screen as Nazi-killer “The Bear” in Tarantino’s recent box office hit Inglourious Basterds, available on DVD and Blu-ray disc on Dec. 15.
